This new cross-disciplinary conference will bring together leading researchers in immunology and microbiology to explore the frontiers of respiratory infection, host–microbiome interactions, and immune dynamics.
AIR 2026 will focus on the airways interface—spanning the lung and upper respiratory tract—and examine how microbiomes and immune responses shape health, infection, and chronic disease. The meeting will emphasise basic science approaches and spotlight the application of genomics, multi-omics, and systems biology, alongside advanced models and technologies.
Aims
- Promote collaboration between immunologists and microbiologists working on respiratory health and disease
- Identify opportunities to study interactions between the respiratory microbiome and immune system
- Highlight technological advances including multi-omics, metagenomics, culturomics and systems approaches
- Showcase innovative in vitro and in vivo models to study infection and microbiome dynamics
Who should attend
This conference is aimed at academic researchers in immunology, microbiology, and infectious disease, with a strong emphasis on fundamental science. It will also appeal to those in translational or clinical research applying genomic or systems-based methodologies to respiratory biology.
Programme themes
The programme will feature the following themes:
- Healthy Ageing: covering immunity, respiratory microbiomes, and viromes
- Metagenomics, Culturomics, and Functional Microbiology
- Co-infection and Fungi
- Exacerbations and Chronic Disease
- Human Infection Models and Cell Atlas Approaches
- In Vitro Models
Abstract deadline: Monday 17 November
We welcome abstracts from all areas relevant to the main themes of the meeting, for both oral and poster presentations. Several oral presentations will be chosen from the abstracts submitted. Presenters of oral presentations are expected to be on-site for the duration of the conference, whereas those presenting posters can do so in person or virtually.
