Noeline Nakasujja is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry at the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University. Her research interests include geriatric psychiatry and cognitive impairment in HIV/AIDS. She is the immediate past Chair of the Department of Psychiatry a position she held for 11 years. She is also the immediate past Chair for the Uganda Society for Health Scientists. She received her Bachelor’s in Medicine/Surgery and her Masters’ degrees in Psychiatry from Makerere University Medical School. She completed her PhD studies and received a joint degree from Makerere University and Karolinska Institute, Sweden. Her work has focused on neurocognitive assessments across the life span as well as other areas in the field of psychiatry.

She has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, supervised several students’ projects both at undergraduate and post graduate level. She has been a recipient of several grants that she has managed successfully. As an ardent educator for capacity building, she has greatly contributed to the training of researchers in the field of mental health both locally and internationally. She has served as a board member on a number of associations including the International Psycho-geriatrics Associations, the World Psychiatric Association, Association of Uganda Women Doctors, The Network: Towards Unity for Health (TUFH), The Uganda Association of Psychiatrists, The African College of Neuropsychopharmacology among others. She has organized, attended and made presentations for numerous scientific conferences both locally and internationally.

She has been honored with a numerous award that include: British Royal College of Psychiatrists student travel award, Uganda Medical Association best researcher, The International Psychogeriatric Association Young Investigators award for Outstanding research endeavors undertaken in a previously unresearched field. She has been awarded scientific Best Presenter by the Uganda Medical Association, Best researcher by the Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Public Health, Best Scientific Poster presenter at the Course on Leadership & Professional skills, Center for AIDS research award for best poster presenter and Outstanding mentor for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent psychiatry. She has also received recognition for her scientific achievements from the Uganda Society for Health Scientists 2010, and was the recipient of the James Kimani award 2017, Society of Neuroscientists of Africa.
