Dr. Kamya is a distinguished Ugandan physician, academic, and researcher. He currently serves as a Professor of Medicine at Makerere University and as the Executive Director of the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) in Uganda. He has previously held the positions of Chair of the Department of Medicine and Dean of the Makerere University School of Medicine. With 30 years of experience in infectious disease research, Dr. Kamya is the co-Program Director of the Uganda International Centers of Excellence in Malaria Research (ICEMR) and a co-Principal Investigator of the Sustainable East Africa Research in Community Health (SEARCH). His numerous accolades include being recognized as one of the 75 most influential public health alumni in the 75-year history of the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) School of Public Health in 2018. Additionally, he received the prestigious 2022 Elise and Walter A. Haas International Award and the Makerere University Vice Chancellor's Research Excellence Award for his prolific publication record and outstanding contributions to scholarly excellence in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
