Benon Asiimwe is full Professor of Public Health Microbiology and also the current Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology. His research intersts are in Antimicrobial Resistance and One Health, using Microbiological, experimental genomics and field epidemiology methods. He is the Country Lead (Uganda) for the MRC funded East African research consortium (Holistic Approach To Unravelling Antimicrobial Resistance in East Africa, HATUA), and also Country Lead for the project “COVID-19 and Antimicrobial Resistance in East Africa (CARE)”, in collaboration with the University of St. Andrews (UK). Outside the academia, Prof. Asiimwe is the Chair of the Research Committee of the National One Health Platform, Uganda.
