Dr. Eric Katagirya is clinical microbiologist and biomedical scientist with expertise and experience in using molecular and sequence-based methodologies to understand host-pathogen interactions, specifically focusing on perturbations in host gene expression following infection by bacterial and viral pathogens. Currently working on understanding qualitative and quantitive perturbations in gene expression among children coinfected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and HIV with the aim of developing potential therapeutic and host targeted diagnostics for paediatric TB-HIV. He also has an interest in pathogen genomics particularly understanding and characterising pathogen virulence and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms using targeted and whole genome sequence data.
