I am a Pharmacist, a lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and a researcher. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (Makerere University, Kampala, 2006), a Master of Science in Chemistry (Makerere University, Kampala, 2006), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine (Pharmaceutical Analysis, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, 2024)
I teach the following courses to Bachelor of Pharmacy students:
i. Heterocyclic and Stereochemistry,
ii. Pharmaceutical analysis,
iii. Medicinal Chemistry of Medicines for non-communicable diseases,
iv. Research Methodology and Proposal Development,
v. Medicinal Chemistry of Anti-infective medicines, and
vi. Drug Discovery, Development and Registration.
I also teach a number of courses to postgraduate students: i. Natural Products Chemistry, ii. Research Seminars, iii. Drug Policy and Regulations, iv. Advances in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, v. Advances in Chemical and Spectrophotometric Methods of Analysis, vi. Advances in Chromatographic and Bioanalytical Methods, vii. Advances in Analytical Method Development, viii. Validation and Optimisation, ix. Quality Assurance and Quality Control of Natural Drugs and Traditional Medicine Products.
I have supervised more than 30 undergraduate, and 20 Master's research projects. Currently, I am supervising 3 PhD students. I have also examined several Master's degree theses.
My research focuses on quality assurance of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. I have experience with analytical spectroscopic and chromatographic method development (especially TLC and HPLC) for both conventional and herbal medicines, and in designing drug quality monitoring studies. In addition, I have participated in several projects aimed at strengthening medicines management (rational medicines use, antimicrobial stewardship, inventory and stores management, budgeting, and quantification) in the public and private sectors. Over the years, I have been involved in developing and reviewing pharmacy-related curricula, as well as inspecting institutions (on behalf of PSU and UNCHE) for suitability to host pharmacy training programs.
