Makerere Medical School (now Makerere University College of Health Sciences) has been in existence since 1924 and has trained various cadres of health professionals, particularly medical doctors at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The Master of Medicine in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, was first started in the early nineteen seventies. In 1978, the first Makerere University postgraduate in ENT  graduated. Since that time, many have followed suit. The Department is divided into five divisions, including: Otology Neurotology, Rhinology, Paediatric Otolaryngology, Head and Neck and General ENT.
