Philippa Musoke is a board-certified Pediatric Infectious Diseases specialist who has been working in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Makerere University and conducting research with the Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University research collaboration for the last 17 years. She has conducted multiple perinatal HIV prevention clinical trials including the including HIVNET012, single dose nevirapine (NVP) for prevention of mother to child HIV transmission (PMTCT), SWEN and HPTN 046, extending NVP dosing to prevent breast milk transmission. All these studies have contributed to the WHO guidelines for PMTCT options in resource limited settings. In addition, she has conducted paediatric HIV treatment trials to improve antiretroviral therapy for children in resource limited settings. Dr. Musoke continues to teach, supervise and mentor medical students and postgraduates in the department of Paediatrics and Child health. She also provides clinical care for sick children admitted to the paediatric wards of Mulago hospital. Areas of research: PMTCT, Paediatric HIV infection and childhood TB.
