Dr. Patrick Sekimpi is a Senior Lecturer at Makerere University College of Health Sciences and a specialist in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, currently serving as the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Mulago National Referral Hospital. He has over two decades of clinical, academic, and research experience in musculoskeletal medicine and surgery.

Dr. Sekimpi holds a Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Makerere University, and completed a trauma fellowship at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Medical School in South Africa. He also holds a Higher Diploma in Orthopaedics from the South African College of Medicine.

As an academic and educator, Dr. Sekimpi has played a pivotal role in developing Uganda’s Orthopaedics training programs. He coordinates undergraduate education in Orthopaedics and teaches across several programs including MBChB, MMED Orthopaedics and Surgery, and allied health disciplines. He has supervised numerous postgraduate dissertations to completion and continues to mentor graduate students in clinical research and scientific writing. He is the current chairman of I.A.C.U.C Research Ethics Committee-NARO.

Dr. Sekimpi is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, with research focusing on traumatic bone injuries, diabetic foot complications, Orthopaedic surgical techniques, and occupational musculoskeletal disorders. His contributions to global surgical health include participation in the Bellagio Essential Surgery Group and co-authorship of landmark papers advocating for increased access to surgical services in sub-Saharan Africa.
