Dr. Ayebare is a Lecturer at the Department of Nursing, Makerere University. She is a Midwife and Paediatric Nurse specialist with special research interests in Maternal, Newborn and Child health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Makerere University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Child Nursing from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, she has a Master of Nursing in Midwifery and Women’s Health degree and a PhD in Health Sciences which focused on birth asphyxia in a post conflict setting. She has worked as a faculty and clinical instructor in Midwifery and Paediatric nursing specialties since 2006. Currently, she is spearheading the development of curricula for postgraduate training in Paediatric and Neonatal nursing at Makerere University. Elizabeth is the Country Principal investigator for the NIHR global health research unit on stillbirth prevention and management in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia, a collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Her contribution to the community includes serving as a member of the Newborn and Child Health technical working groups under the Ministry of Health and involvement in professional activities including mentorship, peer review of manuscript and career guidance. Elizabeth is a member of the National association of Midwives of Uganda, Sigma Theta Tau International Nurses Honour society and a Country Lead for the Lugina Africa Midwives Research network. Her passion is to see improvement of health outcomes for mothers, newborns and children through implementation of high impact, cost effective and culturally adapted interventions. She is committed to supporting continuous nursing and midwifery practice development in Uganda and the region through training, research and collaboration.
