At a ceremony held at the Department of Pharmacy Offices on 13th June 2022, Dr. Kamba Pakoyo Fadhiru handed over office to Dr. Robert BD Otto as the new Head, Department of Pharmacy at the Makerere University College of Health Sciences. Dr. Kamba Pakoyo has served in this position for a term of 4 years. Present at the ceremony was the Makerere University College of Health Sciences Human Resources Officer represented by Mr. Abraham Matovu and Staff of the Department of Pharmacy.
The Department of Pharmacy is one of the four departments in the School of Health Sciences alongside Department of Allied Health, Department of Nursing, and the Department of Dentistry which is currently transitioning to the School of Dentistry.
In his remarks, Dr. Kamba Pakoyo said, ‘I thank University Management, University Appointments Board and the Staff of the Department of Pharmacy for trusting me with leading the department for the four years’. He also thanked the staff and students for according him the necessary cooperation and the College leadership and administration for support during his term. Dr. Pakoyo presented his handover report outlining the achievements and assets of the department during his term of service. He also highlighted challenges affecting the department including; shortage of teaching staff that negatively affects grant proposal writing and research; lack of senior laboratory staff which has hampered administration of practical lessons for students; shortage of cleaning staff among others. ‘I hope these challenges can be solved for better services to staff and students at the Department of Pharmacy.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Robert BD Otto thanked the staff of the Department for the opportunity to serve. He pledged support to the Department, College Leadership and University Management during his term of service.
