She is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Professions Education at Makerere University, where her research focuses on the development of critical thinking skills among undergraduate health professions students.
Lydia is passionate about teaching, mentoring students, and conducting research that contributes to the improvement of health professions education in Uganda and beyond. Her doctoral research, titled “Learning of Critical Thinking Skills among Undergraduate Medical and Nursing Students at Kabale and Makerere Universities,” explores innovative approaches to cultivating critical thinking among future healthcare professionals.
As part of her PhD training, Lydia participated in an academic exchange at the University of Bergen, Norway, from October to November 2023. During this visit, she presented her doctoral research to the TeLEd Research Group in the Department of Education, where she received valuable scholarly feedback that informed the development of her work. She also engaged with doctoral researchers and faculty members, expanding her understanding of educational research methodologies and contemporary issues in health professions education.
While in Norway, Lydia attended regular TeLEd research seminars and discussions, where PhD candidates shared ongoing research and received peer and faculty feedback. These engagements exposed her to diverse educational theories and research perspectives beyond her immediate field of study. The experience further strengthened her research capacity and enabled her to advance several manuscripts arising from her doctoral work through mentorship and constructive feedback from international collaborators.
