Applications are invited for PhD fellowships in bioethics from Makerere University College of Health sciences faculty and individuals who participate in the academic activities of the college who are interested and committed to becoming bioethics scholars. 

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRAINING AT A MASTER’S OF HEALTH SCIENCE LEVEL IN BIOETHICS

International Health Research Ethics Training (IHRET) program aims at enhancement of ethical conduct of professionals with a focus on the interplay of national and international best practices. The program is currently soliciting for applications from suitably qualified Ugandans and international applicants for admission and scholarships that will support them to pursue a Master’s of Health Sciences in Bioethics (MHSc. Bioethics) full time programme starting academic year 2017/2018 at the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University.

Careers in bioethics workshop at ASBH

The Association of Bioethics Program Directors is hosting a Careers in Bioethics Workshop at ASBH. I’ll be moderating a series of presentations from, and a discussion with, Amy McGuire, Eric Kodish, Susan Lederer & David Magnus. The workshop will be held on Saturday from 10:45-12:15. It will cover a wide range of professional directions related to bioethics, including positions focused on research, clinical service and teaching. It should be invaluable to anyone pursuing or considering bioethics as a career choice.

Fogarty program develops bioethics expertise in Uganda

As the HIV/AIDS epidemic took hold in Africa in the 1990s, researchers studying ways to treat and prevent the disease struggled with the ethical questions involved. Was it appropriate to use placebos in trials of drugs that were already proven effective in high-income countries? How could they ensure research subjects were not unduly influenced into participation when the alternative in many cases was no treatment at all?

The Academic Registrar of Makerere University invites applications from suitable candidates for admission to a Master of Health Sciences in Bioethics (MHSc. Bioethics) fulltime programme for 2016/2017 Academic Year.  It is a two-year programme open to both Ugandans and International applicants. Partial scholarships (Tuition) will be available for all Successful Applicants.
