Cathy Kilyewala

Cathy Kilyewala is a Lecturer at Makerere University College of Health Sciences Department of Surgery. She completed an International Clinical Fellowship of Endocrine Surgery from Yale University in 2018, Epidemiology and Biostatistics levels i & ii courses from Makerere University School of Public Health. She previously was working as a Surgeon at Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital May 2017- Jan 2019. She is a senior scholar Global Partners of Anesthesia and Surgery (GPAS) Makerere University Department of Surgery 2014- 2016. She continues to apply her clinical skills and knowledge as a surgeon to the day to day patient care in Mulago National Referral Hospital at the Breast and Endocrine Surgery Unit and at community outreach programs. Interests: She is passionate about making a meaningful contribution to the health trajectory of Uganda through training health professionals to build the surgical work force while embracing all manner of advances in surgical education. She is currently doing research on remote surgical training by relaying and archiving surgical procedures, Virtual reality, artificial intelligence and creating standardized live surgical operative manuals. She is keen on future research in breast & Endocrine Surgery, surgical education, mentorship and workforce distribution in Africa. She is a member of the association of Surgeons of Uganda (ASOU), the Uganda Medical Association (UMA), The Lions Club for Kampala New Century Uganda, and Women in Surgery Africa (WISA) holding the position of country Representative and Shield Maiden
