IDI is part of the STOP Malaria Project Consortium funded by USAID and takes the lead on building capacity of laboratory personnel on malaria diagnosis using microscopy and Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs); and district level capacity for quality assurance and control of malaria parasitological diagnosis in 45 districts. IDI is also conducting research on the effect and acceptability of RDTs by community medicine distributors in south western Uganda (Bushenyi district). This has been made possible through two sub- grants from Accordia with funding from ExxonMobil. Through the same funding, the department disseminated the integrated management of malaria course to tutors from nurses and laboratory professional training institutions. The course will be rolled out further among informal private for profit practitioners in three districts.
