3. Masters in Public Health Nutrition

This training program is in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other partners after realization that there was a shortage of the number of trained nutritionists and nutrition-related professionals. This is despite the fact that malnutrition is common in low income countries, including Uganda, and it carries devastating effects on health and general socio-economic development. The program admits people from medical and biological science degree backgrounds. It is expected that graduates of the Masters in Public Health Nutrition program, which admitted its first batch of students this academic year (2009-2010) will be resourceful in the management of nutrition programs, working hand in hand with health workers.

4. Masters in Health Services Research
The program is designed for individuals who desire postgraduate training in public health research. The program was developed by experts from the Makerere University School of Public Health in collaboration with the School of Medicine, Division of Health Services Research, at the Case Western Reserve University, Ohio, USA. The program produces practically oriented health services researchers with knowledge and skills required to assume leadership roles in research within the health systems, which enables them to address the current and future challenges of health service delivery. The program equips students with research and analytical skills to measure and evaluate access, utilisation, quality, cost and cost-effectiveness of health care services at national level and within private health care organisations. Graduates are also prepared to work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary sectors in and outside of the health system, to generate evidence for health policy formulation.
